I know, I'm late to The Office party

Ya, ya, ya I know I’m about seven years behind on my Netflix bingeing.

I’m just not the type of person to jump on the bandwagon when things are super popular though. I like to take my time, let the craze die down and then see if I want to partake, which is exactly what happened with The Office.

I decided to take the leap and start watching it after hearing people around me discuss their love towards it for over a year. Then, after being exposed to the show through a number of memes and other online fodder, I figured I’d take the leap and give it a shot. Couldn’t hurt right? Well I became hooked on it quick, and I am actually watching it right now as I write this.

It’s heavy use of wit and sarcasm appeals to me, as that is my favourite type of humour, and the crafting of such clever characters is really quite genius. As of right now I am about 3/4 of the way through season 8 (episode 17 to be exact), and although things are definitely still interesting, I find myself yearning for the simple antics of the first few seasons.

Staplers in Jell-O, Micheal’s inappropriate comments, Pretzel Day.

So much innocence.

But with the progression of the show, as well as the addition and subtraction of characters, the scope of the story was bound to change dramatically. What was once a small, somewhat contained environment of high-jinks, has grown to include multiple levels of complex relationships and more mature obstacles, leaving me with so many questions.

Will Micheal come back?

Is Dwight really the father of Angela’s baby?

Is Jim and Pam’s marriage going to last?

Who is the Scranton Strangler?

So bottom line, I like the show very much, and I am starting to feel sad knowing that I have only one more season left. Over the last couple months the show has definitely become a source of comfort for me and I am yet to establish a replacement for when the end comes. Schitt’s Creek and Brooklyn Nine-Nine are currently the two most worthy candidates, but I’m still nervous for the transition. There is the UK version of The Office, but I am hesitant to watch that because it’s reportedly not as good as the American version, and I don’t want it to ruin my impression of the show. Re-watching things isn’t something I’m really into either, so the departure from my intimate connection with The Office will be abrupt.

Like I said though, still on season 8, so please no spoilers.
