You know when you get stuck in a slump, either creatively or just in general, and you don’t feel inspired or want to doing anything? It’s the worst. Getting out of bed is like hell, and you know you should be doing something productive but just don’t want to. This happened to me a few weeks ago, probably due to a combination of crappy weather and feeling like I was hitting a wall career-wise. I got out of it though, thanks in-part to some new opportunities, good advice and the inspiration sources listed below.
Read. Click the links. Be inspired. Un-slump yourself.
The Mayfair Group: The Mayfair Group is a brand representation agency based out of Arizona, but the reason I started following them on Instagram was specifically for their collages. They are vary female-empowerment focused and just straight-up fun to look at. They also share really cool horoscopes.
Labels: This is a pretty random one, but for some reason I find the labels on some products to be very visually stimulating. Especially bright, overly commercial ones like on cereal boxes and junk food. So, if you’re feeling down, maybe a trip to the grocery store is needed. Oh, and there are no rules against bringing home some “inspiration”, since ice cream can solve a lot of problems too.
Twitter: There have been multiple occasions where I’ve exited my Twitter app feeling like I can take on the world. I know that Twitter is known for being a toxic place, but I think it really just depends on who you are following. If you follow the right people it can actually be a pretty positive and uplifting experience, with the slight undertone of sarcasm that makes it entertaining.
Man Repeller: I know I’ve mentioned it gajillion times before, but I LOVE Man Repeller. So please, if you haven’t, go read some of their articles. I know they can be extra long with lots of words but they are always worth it in the end. Okay, I promise I won’t talk about it anymore.
The Skinny Confidential: Yes, I know another blog, but it’s an important one. Super honest, cheeky and VERY pink. You’ll find lots of beauty and lifestyle tips with cute collages mixed in as well. There is also The Skinny Confidential Podcast, which is amazing for getting fired up and motivated to do things. Definitely worth the listen.
Friday Fries: Thank you to the Instagram discovery page for introducing me to Friday Fries. This is a really good Instagram account for finding thought-provoking visuals and quotes. You’ll find similar content floating around on other accounts, but this is the least annoying and most curated account I think.
Flatlay: Anotha’ one. This Instagram account features the highest quality flat-lays out there in my opinion, so it’s 100% worth the follow. Also, they show a variety of different flat-lays. Beauty ones, food ones, fashion ones and even ones with dogs sometimes. Dogs people. DOGS.
Nature: Go get outside! It’s the first day of Spring so take advantage of the weather. Bring a friend or a dog (cats are acceptable too) or both. Look at the flora and the fauna, pick up garbage, take a picture of the sun. If your excuse is that you don’t have time, sell your car and take transit. You’ll get in a lot of steps that way.
Now go do things! I believe in you!
